Seems like this has been a recurring theme in the archives over the summer, but since that’s what this season is all about, I guess it makes sense we’ve featured summer fun more than once or twice. Today we start with a shot from Thomas “Biz” Bisard taken in 2004. He gives us a glimpse of someone who seems to be just enjoying the moment, with the water of the Black River flowing right by his feet. Located in Gogebic County, this river gets it's name from the dark color of the water. That dark color comes from a naturally formed dye, called 'tannin', which leaches into the water from the bark of the Hemlock trees along the tributary banks.
The next three photos were all snapped by Brita Haapala. It looks like she’s our “roving summertime photographer” today. Her first shot was back in 2011, when three of her kiddos were cooling off in the sprinkler on a hot summer day. I love how she captured such different expressions on all three faces.
Brita shot the third fun photo in 2012, for fellow photographer, Mike Schneider, who wanted some family photos taken. She met them out at Brunette Park, past Gay for this fun shoot with Daddy spinning his little girl on the Lake Superior shoreline.
That brings us to our current photo for today, also from Brita Haapala. She was out at Brunette Park again, this time enjoying the day with her kids. That’s her “baby” playing in the sand and looking ever so cute! When choosing today’s photos, I didn’t realize these last two were both at Brunette Park, until Brita mentioned it. If you look closely, you can see the same two trees at the point of land in both photos. Turned out to be quite a coincidence.
Today’s video is a fun one, also. I have to confess that it’s not from here in the U.P., but it certainly could have been. It’s such a cute video, I couldn’t resist sharing these twins enjoying some sprinkler time.

Another one of my favorite stops.. Brunette Park, always take a look and occasional swim at the park. It was just a short distance further to our camp at LB. Used to see quite a few bears and their evidence of being there with the trash cans tipped over in the mornings.

Cute video as well, so was the deer rescue that came after it.

I sense brook trout lurking in the deep holes and the shadows. Just waiting for a succulent looking caddis fly.
