Summertime is the right time for all of today’s archive activities. Going back to 2001 with Nancy Nelson, we visit Isle Royale. She was up bright and early, finding this row of rental canoes waiting in Tobin Harbor for a new group of eager paddlers. I like the image that’s reflected in the water, too.
Philip Odum takes us to Whitefish Bay in 2014, for a nighttime look at the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. Phil had actually spent the night there on the beach photographing the satellites, meteorites and stars sparkling in the night sky. Seeing the Lighthouse and campus lit up for the night was a special treat, too!
Who doesn’t love a bonfire on the shores of Lake Superior? Sue Uren was at Sedar Bay in 2016 with her niece, enjoying a crackling fire while they waited for the sun to set. It doesn’t get much better than this.
Oh wait, maybe it does get better, especially if you can be there in person, or the next best thing, a video that takes you to Lake Superior’s shore, this one in Marquette. We join Edward Bennetts for the quiet crackling of the fire and the lapping of the waves at the edge of the beach. Sit back, relax and take it all in.

Is that the Big Dipper behind the Whitefish Point Light? Sure looks like it!
