A few interesting sights from around the U.P., today, some you might know about, others you might not. Starting back in 2009, we join Dan Brown in Copper Harbor, where he found some interesting markings on the rocks across from the Copper Harbor Lighthouse. Turns out it's the U.S. Lighthouse Service Survey Marker and it looks like it's dated 1864. What do you suppose they used to "chisel" those markings into the rock there, back then?

We head to the eastern end of the U.P. for our next photo, taken in 2010 by Lynn Virtanen at the Soo Locks. We get a look at the locks from a different angle in this shot, as Lynn snapped it while on the International Bridge that connects the U.S. and Canada.

If you’re anything like me, I had no idea back when this photo first appeared, where or what this building was, but Bruce Watters informed us that it is the hydroelectric operation in Forestville, on the Dead River in Marquette County. This link will take you back to this day in 2011, in case you want to read what Bruce had to say about this plant back then: August 13, 2011.

Interestingly enough, we have a video that was taken at the Forestville Hydroelectric Powerhouse back in 2012, by Josiah Hanna, that explains about this operation, too. Quite interesting.

Interesting photos and video! I started grasping for air after Mr. Hanna climbed the hill! :) Have driven by it plenty, never really stopped to check it out, too bad people have to spread the graffiti over everything.

I agree UC, the video was outstanding. Always amazes
me that part of the penstock is the original wood!
Guess they built it right back then.

Also find the old Survey Marker interesting - still
there are all these years. That's why they carved it
into the rock!

When I was a kid we used to play and climb on those old wooden
pipes. At that time they were well maintained. It looks Like
Marquette BLP has ignored maintenance now for many years. They
didn't leak back then.

Interesting! It's like the first example of graffiti.
