We’re starting out our look back into the archives today, with Paul Mihelich, back in 2000. It looks like these kiddos were busy picking blueberries, but thimbleberries and raspberries are ripening about now, too. Plenty of pies, jams and desserts are just waiting to be made with fresh Keweenaw berries.
Next we go back to a Shoebox Memory with our second photo. It came to us from Richard Barclay and appeared on this day back in 2004. That’s Betty Hainault striking a perfect pose in the middle of some rushing rapids in the Keweenaw in 1945. I’m not certain, but it looks like it could be the small falls at Township Park outside of Lake Linden.
The third photo has always been a favorite of mine. Brita Haapala snapped this beauty on the shores of Lake Superior, as the sun was coloring the skies a brilliant orange hue. It’s such a fun photo, I can just imagine Brita with her camera all set to go and telling the kids to jump, NOW, so she could capture them all in various phases, with the sunset providing the background and making the kids anonymous.
We’re going to join the Discovering show, with a broadcast from 2013 about picking Thimbleberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and more. The Jam Lady, with Paul Mihelich is featured and gives some tips on picking berries and making jam. I can almost taste that Thimbleberry Jam now.

Couldn't watch the entire video, but it looks like a great way to spend an afternoon...cotton pick'n berries,

I love the 2011 photo. I thought it was by Brenda Leigh. Still use it as the background photo on my computer's home screen.

I did comment on this, but it's gone.
That's weird.

Deb,
I've had a few of those vanishing comments too!
