It would be interesting to go back through the Pasty Cam archives and count all the animals that have appeared on these pages throughout the years. I wouldn’t even venture to make a guess as to how many there have been. We start out today’s look back in the year 2000, with a photo snapped by Dan Urbanski. He said at the time, that this big fella came looking in his patio door while he was working on some photographs. And even earlier in the evening he had been sitting on Dan’s neighbor’s porch and wouldn’t let him into his house. He sure got around.
We join Donna MacIntosh in the year 2004, right there in her Baraga backyard, for a glimpse of a set of fawn triplets. These three were right outside Donna’s sliding doors, eating some nice thick grass. Mom was doing some of the same, nearby.
One year later, in 2005, Ashley Byykkonen got right down at eye level to snap a photo of the colorful, Mr. Toad. He’s looking quite serious and not a smile to be had. Check out those eyes, too. Makes me think of the phrase, “My, what big eyes you have!”
Frogs and Toads have always fascinated me, the way they look, but mostly the way they sound. Today’s video features a variety of Michigan Frogs and Toads, along with what sounds each makes. My favorite is the Northern Spring Peeper, I love hearing that sound on a quiet evening.

All great photos again today. I like frogs and toads also. Couldn't read all the names in the video, because of the print color, but still very interesting. Who knew there were so many different frogs? We see a lot of tree frogs out here. Sometimes our cats feel the need to bring them in to the porch so we can congratulate them on their hunting skills.
Happy Friday, all!

I LOVE peepers too....nothing like that sound....you know it's Spring when you hear them!!
And those trips were so darling! I remember that...Mom was leading the way, I just tossed out some remaining grapes...the trips heard it and ran up and started to chow down...THEN Mom came back...she wasn't too thrilled...but let them chow. Just adorable!!

When I first saw the video, I thought it was a shish kabob on the grill...now I'm hungry.

Foe every human problem, there is an answer that is simple, neat, and wrong.
The toad's primary defense system are glands that produce a poison that may be potent enough to kill a grown dog. These parotoid glands also produce the 5-MeO-DMT and bufotenin for which the toad is known; both of these chemicals belong to the family of hallucinogenic tryptamines.
"Go lick a Toad"? A few years ago that was all the rage among teens in South Florida and elsewhere. Now look at them, some are members of city and county commissions, the state legislature and even Congress. The psychedelic drug never wore off. :-)
