We start out our review of the archive photos over the years, in 2000, with a photo snapped by Patti Vickers as she was passing through Eagle Harbor and spotted this plethora of “bird accomodations”. When they’re all occupied by some feathered friends, this would be a great place to do some bird watching.
Then in 2012, we head out to Bootjack, where Patty Rheault discovered a Mama Robin sitting on her nest, built on their family farm. She watched them throughout the process and eventually was able to watch four babies emerge into the world.
Moving ahead a couple years, to 2014, we join Brenda Leigh on the shores of Lake Superior in the Brimley area. A peaceful scene, with the small wave rolling in, the island in the background and the plant life on the shoreline. Brenda said back then, that they were a type of “pea” that the birds, deer and mice eat, but they may be toxic to humans.
Our current photo for today, was captured by Cindy Conway at Whitefish Point. That’s the WP Waterbird Observatory shack there on the Lake Superior shores. It’s used by folks that count the migratory birds in the spring and fall, as a shelter from the weather.
Speaking of the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, our video today was recorded there. Boreal Owls winking and blinking and at 1:05 in the video, turn up your speakers and listen for a nearby Saw-whet owl call. Fun to observe these unique birds in their habitat.

Intense looking birds and the last one has me falling asleep here at my desk. Wake me up when we're there.

Love that shoreline near Brimley. But then, I
love that shoreline anywhere.
