Amidst all the turmoil of the flash flooding here in the Copper Country and the amazing coming together of volunteers that are showing up in large numbers to help people shovel out and clean up, we still remember the beauty that makes up our home. Today’s archive photos remind us of that, starting in 2003, with a photo of Gaywings taken by Dan Urbanski. It doesn’t get much prettier than this.
Moving forward a few years to 2010, we’re out at Isle Royale with Kevin Henriksen who was kayaking around the shipwreck SS America on the Windigo end. That’s a buoy there in the water, marking where the shipwreck is, as it’s close to the surface. It’s certainly a peaceful Lake Superior shot.
Then in 2014, Bob Gilreath was out on his side-by-side further north in the Keweenaw, exploring the beauty of the woods UP there. So much green and so much to discover on less traveled trails and roads.
That brings us to the present, with Beth Jukuri. She spotted this goose family with so many babies, it’s hard to even count them. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that big a family of geese like this before. Makes you wonder if they adopted other goslings from other geese families or maybe it’s gosling daycare!
Our video feature today will make you smile... watching these little goslings busily eating some treats with their Mom and Dad. Listen to those little peepers!

Baby birds of any kind are so cute. What fun watching that video. I must say that I don't think I've ever seen that flower. Very pretty.

2003 is a prize winner, indeed.

After some "goose research" I find that any numbers exceeding 9 is likely due to multiple females. I counted 26 little ones in the video. Maybe a double adoption? Yikes, that's a bunch in the clutch.
