The map D.A. shared and the daily and weekly
cumulative precipitation maps I've been able to
find so far point to how surprisingly localized
this heavy rain was. Normally you'd expect to see
much more widespread effects of a weather system
like this. The Weather Underground website
publishes a daily almanac of weather events, and
if I'm reading the data correctly, it looks like
in the 23-minute period between 3:30 am and 3:53
am, 2.35 inches of rain fell. That's an insane
rate of accumulation, and of course much, much
more rain fell throughout the night. Our prayers
are with everyone affected, but all the great and
generous people in these communities are looking
out for each other, so everyone will pull through
just fine!

Hope FEMA can step in to assess all the damage and recommend federal funding for all the reconstruction. SISU, everyone UP there!

There are just no words, only prayers. My
heart is aching for my home town and
surrounding areas.
