It’s a Lake Superior Day both in the archives and our current photo, too. We join Capt. Ben Kilpela of the Isle Royale Queen in our first archive shot from 2003. Capt. Ben snapped a great view of Tobin Harbor on the shores of Isle Royale. Check out how clear the water is there.

We head back over to the mainland for our 2005 archive photo, taken by Eric Stewart. This photo is near Agate Harbor, along M-26, between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. I like how Eric captured the fog and the brightness of the sun trying to burn that fog off the Big Lake.

Sticking around the same general area of Lake Superior, we stop for a visit at Esrey Park, in 2010. Marilynn Bachorik framed the view looking out from the top of the wall there at the Park, but also included part of the stepping stone pathway, giving dimension to the scene. That takes it from an ordinary shot of Lake Superior, to a unique one that helps identify where it was taken.

Jumping ahead to the present, we join Sharon Bodenus at Marquette Harbor, where she captured a couple sitting on a bench, taking in the beauty of the evening. Great colors in this shot, including the red they’re wearing and the yellow bike! Such a bright yellow, it really catches your eye. Sharon said it was a beautiful evening to enjoy the smells, sounds and beauty of Lake Superior.

Our video today was made in 2013, taking us on a slow and peaceful tour of Esrey Park and the surrounding rock formations. It’s a little over seven minutes long, so if you have the time, give it a watch. If you don’t have time for the whole thing, just watch a part of it, then. It’s quite calming and relaxing!

I like how the last photo was taken just as the tower lights were flashing. Good timing!

Happy Birthday, Terry. Hope you and Momma and Larry are having fun......Miss You.

Walking around those Esrey rocks while filming can be quite a tricky (and potentially dangerous) operation. You can hear the photographer gasping and sighing several times. At least is was very calm and dry.

Wow... as usual, stellar pix and video, just what the doctor ordered.

Someone is eating fish and chips for a year...pass the malt vinegar.

That's a lot of fish there Alex. Hopefully they'll pass on eating it. While rare, all of the cases of Haff disease reported in the U.S. came from eating Buffalo fish. Cooking does not prevent the spread of the toxin.

Alex,
Your link reminds us of a book that you might want to track down and read some tine.
'Fishing for Buffalo'
'A Guide to the Pursuit, Lore & Cuisine of Buffalo, Carp, Mooneye, Gar and other "Rough" Fish'
By Bob Buffler & Tom Dickson...1990

Very interesting reading between the covers of this unique book!

Many a pasty picnic at Esrey...great spot with the view and cool breeze.

Really bad weather in the Keweenaw. 6 inches of rain overnight. Lots of washouts. I think Pasty cam got washed out.

I was wondering about that Johnmi. The pictures
around the UP look very bad.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 17, 2018 - 01:19 pm:

It is so awful. Most everybody is stuck
where they are. I pray nobody has any
medical emergencies because they are not
getting out. Right now you can get from
Lake Linden to Calumet and vice versa but
they're saying it's very unstable and
isn't gonna last long. I wouldn't want to
be on that road when it gives out. This
is just complete and utter devastation.
Praying for everybody UP there. I'm very
happy we came home when we did.
