The archive theme today is all about kids...at play, at school and working together as a team. We go back to 2005 for our first “kid” shot, shared by Chris Koskiniemi. It was the Shoebox Memory and featured the Laurium Fire Department Truck with Henry Westphal at the helm, covered by a host of local kids. Charlie figured back then, that most of those kids must have been retirement age by now.
Our next group of kids were photographed by Kassy Kallio in 2013. The students are sixth graders from Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools, who dress up in the period clothing from when this Little Red School House was in operation in the early 1900’s. They pack a lunch, such as what kids would have eaten back then, which means no plastic baggies, pop (soda), lunch meat or fancy lunch boxes and they experience a day of learning the old fashion way at the Historic Traprock Valley Schoolhouse there on the Houghton County Historical Society campus grounds. The schoolhouse was originally built in 1914 and served families from Traprock Valley for children through 8th grade. It closed down in 1940 and the students transferred to the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools then.
The third photo is a current picture of the U.P. Track Champions! For a second year in a row, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Girls Track Team took the top honors at the U.P. Finals in Kingsford just a week or so ago. These young women worked hard to achieve this goal and were fun to watch, as they went undefeated all season. Congratulations, Lakes Girls!
Looks like this “kids” day has ended up as a “Lakes kids day”, since our video features the LLH Kindergarten graduating class showing off what they learned this past year with an ABC song. Red Jacket Media made the video of these cute little graduates. Enjoy their performance!

We're not KIDDING around today. There are so many bodies on that F.D. truck, I can't see the driver.
