The Pasty Cam is all over the U.P. today, starting in the archives back in 2002, with Robert C. Wetton. This photo was taken in the 1950’s on Bumbletown Hill and that’s RCW (RIP) on the left, with his daughter, Sherry in the middle and his son Rob on the right. Both RCW and Rob have been regular contributors over the years, providing us with some great glimpses of life UP North. There are some interesting comments from the original day this was posted, you can read them here: May 19, 2002. I wonder whatever happened to that giant chair?
Another Shoebox Memory appeared on the Pasty Cam back in 2013 with a photo from the archives of the Crew of the Lady Be Good. Significant to the U.P., because one of her crew was born and raised in Lake Linden, where the B-24 Liberator bomber prop, with twisted blades, is mounted as a tribute to one of Lake Linden’s finest, Tech Sergeant Robert E. LaMotte. He was the radio operator and gunner on board. Another interesting read with more information can be found here in the archives: May 19, 2013.
Jumping ahead a few years, Beth Jukuri takes us along on a hike in the Estivant Pines near Copper Harbor, back in 2016. This is the perfect time of year to explore this forest of gigantic pines, since it’s not too hot yet and there aren’t many bugs. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s a must see. You’ll be amazed at the size of some of these trees towering overhead.
Another group of explorers joined Melanie Hakala Rossi on an adventure to the Sturgeon River near Norway last weekend. Melanie said she didn’t know there was a Sturgeon River in Dickinson County (neither did I). It rises from the confluence of the East branch in Central Dickinson County and the West branch in West Central Dickinson County and empties into the Menominee River.
Today is Armed Forces Day, so we end with a video tribute to the United States Armed Forces. This is a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jack Everly, of "The Armed Forces Medley" during the 2016 National Memorial Day Concert. If you haven’t tuned in to this annual concert before, be sure to do so this year on PBS, Sunday, May 27th, at 8:00 pm. It’s a beautiful tribute to the men and women who serve and have served in our Armed Forces. Thank you to them all!

I can say this:
A woman who has never seen her husband fishing doesn't know what a patient man she married.

Great video for Armed Forces Day. Seeing the members
stand when their song was played was great!

Pat & Glenda! That is a very true statement. My
husband can sit quietly and fish without a bite
for hours.
