It’s kind of neat how our looking back into the archives this time of year is such a toss-up as to whether we’ll be looking at snow or a Spring thaw. Keeps us on our toes and mixes things up, for sure. Paul Roberts starts us off today with a shot he took in 2007, in Eagle Harbor. It’s always good to see the freighters back out sailing on the Big Lake and even better when you can capture it happening with a Lighthouse in the scene, too.
We stay on the shores of Lake Superior, but at the Houghton Breakers for our second archive shot, snapped in 2012, by Susan Hooker. That year we had a brief return to winter that Susan captured on the trees bordering the Upper Entry Light, but according to the notes that day, it was a short-lived return and melted off quite quickly.
Then in 2016, E.Neil Harri took us flying over the Picture Rocks for a look at Spring happening there. That’s Arch Rock, which Neil actually captured going 120 mph. Just a bit of snow/ice hanging on to the rocks right above the water level and everything looks so gray with no leaves sprouting yet.
Our video takes us on another flight. Not quite the same elevation as Neil’s tour and actually a different season, because I’m dreaming of summer today. Enjoy the close-up looks at the Pictured Rocks, from Ben Grace.

Great pictures. And the video of Pictured Rocks
is so spectacular. The lakeshore is a lot like
that of the Apostle Islands, but yet more
beautiful!

I really like those drone videos. Those drones are the greatest invention since the wheel. Pictured Rocks is a spectacular place.
