Our archive photos from the past 20 years are going to be about Spring today, because I’m getting tired of winter. Yes, I know it’s April 18th and not really winter, but here in the Keweenaw we still have snow, so Spring hasn’t quite sprung. How about that up-close shot of the first flowers of Spring, the Crocus. Fred Koski snapped this beauty back in 2006. The detail is amazing, right down to the bit of fuzz on the tip of the left side petals.
The next look at Spring in the Copper Country takes us back to 2009, with a photo snapped by my hubby, Jim Drew. This was before Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools had redone the track around the football field and the kids would do their practicing on Front St. behind the High School. You can still see piles of dirty snow where the plows had pushed it, but Spring was definitely in the air in this shot.
That brings us to the year 2011 and a photo taken by Brandy Greet. She was out on County Road 510 and snapped this photo of the historic steel bridge that crosses the Dead River in Marquette County. It was taken out of use in 2010 when another bridge was built over the Dead River, but the historic Dead River Bridge was kept in place for foot traffic. Just a small strip of ice was still hanging on to the riverbank back then, but otherwise winter was over and done.
If you’d like to know more about the CR510 Bridge, then you’re in the right place, as our video from Josiah Hanna takes us there with a closer look, along with information about the historic bridge, back in 2012.

Interesting narration about the bridge. I would need long stem croci, they are under about a foot and a half of snow now.

Nice pix and video...thanks for the outing! Spring is about to spring into action, finally.

I like the "no snow" pictures. Thankfully, the snow we were supposed to get yesterday went south of us. We don't need any more. It's supposed to be 50's & 60's in the foreseeable future. I love the first picture...finally, a flower. The video was great also.
