The archives are still jockeying between Springtime melting and Springtime ice here UP North. Some years the melt comes earlier than others. Like in 2004, when we shared the first photo, snapped by Dan Brown. He was out on a dirt backroad somewhere in the U.P. and found some mud to slide around in with his buddies. Note: We here at Pasty.com do not endorse riding in the back of pickup trucks...in most circumstances it is against the law in Michigan.

Susan Hooker showed us a completely different scene for the Spring of 2007. She was out at Houghton Breakers after a storm and found what the winds and water had done to the channel marker there, just opposite the Coast Guard Station. Quite amazing when the wind is spraying the lake water and it is so cold that it freezes before it gets a chance to run off of the marker like that.

And then again in 2015, Spring was having a hard time showing up on the Eastern end of the U.P. That’s Brenda Leigh skiing out on the ice with a freighter in the background. Her hubby Jim Solko snapped that shot. Looks like a good sheet of ice covering Lake Superior that year, just like this year again.

We’re back in the mud for today’s video feature. Recorded in the Spring of 2009, it shows a Durango truck making its way through a muddy trail. Going to need a good washing after that one!

I've always found that 2nd picture to be so cool.
And we're in the same boat as you guys with the
cold, mud, etc. I don't think summer's ever going
to get here if we can't even get spring!

Interesting pix and the video reminds me of doing something similar in my '91 Chevy K Series Blazer. Used to love blazing trails.

Great Pics and video!!!! Those are some great memories for my buddy Marty, and me while deer hunting, and just cruising thru the woods. My dad,( Grandpa Norm ) always enjoyed it as well. It got a little crazy sometimes being miles deep into the woods and only one vehicle, we were lucky that we didn't have to walk out for help!! I miss those days and LB!!.... maybe after retirement, we'll do it again!

I hope you do too, UC. You deserve it!

I like the windswept ice picture. The combination of wind and ice make for some neat sculptures.
Not long ago on Memorial Day 2014 there was ice in the harbor in Marquette and sun bathers on the beach. I think it was 80 degrees or so that day.

Never before have such large masses of people been so totally divorced from the land or the direct processing of their own food stuffs.
