In the past year, we’ve been looking through the archives and sharing photos that have appeared throughout the years. Often the photos chosen follow a theme, but not always. Today’s choices from the past years on this date really don’t have anything in common except that they were taken of scenes here UP North. The first one is a beauty, snapped by Dan Urbanski back in 2002. He sure had an eye for the beauty around the Upper Peninsula and in such simple things as a nest covered in snow, with water droplets hanging on or perhaps frozen on a stray strand of nesting material. Nature’s beauty.

The next photo was a Shoebox Memory, shared by Deb Simons back in 2008. The young fellow down by the Pasty.com watermark, is her Dad, Ben Durocher. He was out with his family helping to collect sap so they could enjoy some delicious homemade maple syrup. It’s getting to be that time of year again.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think that the third photo which originally appeared on these pages in 2016, had been taken this past Tuesday, since that’s just about exactly what it looked like three days ago here. But no, Barbara Bouwkamp took this shot two years ago on Easter morning. I bet she was wondering then, as we’re wondering now...will Spring ever arrive here in the Copper Country?

Since we were talking about collecting sap, this would be a good time for a lesson on how to tap those Maple trees, to get the sap used in making local, fresh Maple Syrup. Watch and learn!

Oh how I love that picture of my dad with his dad
and brothers. I actually love the Easter snow
picture also. Supposedly, that's what our Easter
may be like. It's hard to believe it's spring.
Easter was always a time to sport your new
dresses, shoes and bonnets. Not happening this
year. The kids will have an east time of it
finding those Easter eggs, though.

Great pictures today. I will even go so far as to say the snow filled picture is passable good.
It took six months of a low wattage sun to get rid of enough snow for me to see bare ground. It was quickly obliterated this afternoon with Mother Nature's white out.

For sure, Alex. My dad's family were 7 boys and
4 girls, but one of the girls died as a toddler.
And my grandparents then has about 18
granddaughters and 9 grandsons. My parents had
just me and my brother. I had all boys and my
brother had all boys. My husband only has a boy
and my brother's wife had 3 boys before she and
my brother got married. My first grandchild was
a boy, and my brother's first grandchld was a
boy. Then we finally had a girl as our 2nd
grandchild. She was the first girl in our
family since me. But yep, there were lots and
lots of boys. Now the girls finally outnumber
the boys 5/4. Who'd a thunk??
