Earlier this year Jason Asselin captured the movement of trains with snowplows in the U.P., and today's video is of the same style and manufacturer as the one on display next to Coppertown USA. That's happens to be the picture we presented on this day in 2000, and Jason returns with this snowy find he discovered near Rock. Hopefully we won't be needing such brute force to clear the tracks again until NEXT winter.

Pretty typical for the U.P... One year on Mother's Day - in the middle of May - the kids and I went snowmobiling on the trails above Eagle River. At one point I stepped off and sunk into snow above my knees. With the extreme low temps in the Upper Midwest this year, I think the snow could be around well into May again.

We got a foot of very wet heavy snow this weekend here in northern Illinois. It took me 4 times normal effort and time to shovel out. I expect it will all be gone in a few days. Oh how I hope the worst is over for the season.
