Today’s archive review of the past twenty years of photos has a couple interesting Springtime shots. Well, Spring here UP North that is, which is different than Spring south of us and as Charlie has said here before, just about everything is south of the U.P. and us Yoopers. We start out today with a photo taken at Point Louie which is on the way from Little Traverse to Lac La Belle. The snow and ice was receding quickly in 2000, since the temps were in the 50’s then.
Our next photo is flying over Eagle River with E. Neil Harri, back in 2011. It looks like there wasn’t too much receding going on there that year. It’s neat to pick out the Fitz, Charlie’s house, Keweenaw Courthouse, and the bridges and falls.
The third shot was a first for Brenda Leigh back in 2012. She took us kayaking near Point Iroquois Lighthouse on the eastern end of Lake Superior. Kayaking in March on the Big Lake, is rather unusual, but Brenda was out there with her sister and a friend, with plenty of ice around the Point, even with the 72° temperatures that day.
We’re kayaking in our video feature today, too. This was actually recorded near the Baraga Municipal Marina in Keweenaw Bay, not in March though, but in May of 2004, which was quite an unusual year for the ice floes on Lake Superior. I recall it being in the 80’s, with people in the water at White City/Jacobsville with ice all around.

Those pictures all look so cold. I'd be so afraid
of falling in the water in the 3rd picture.
Brrrr!! I'm so ready for summer.

Coast Guard budget cuts in action, ice breaking kayaks.
That should save a bundle. :-)
