Over the past 20 years, the Pasty Cam has shared a number of historical events, documenting them in photo and information, too. Today we look at three of those days, starting with 2003. The daily photo was from Charlotte Multer of her Grandfather, George E. Hoyem in the 1930’s, as he was delivering bread made at the Hoyem Bakery in Calumet. Check out that snowbank he’s standing by there!

In 2007, Marsha Bertoldi made a winter visit to Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor. The Fort looks so different all in white. I can only imagine what it was like living there at the tip of the Keweenaw back in the days the Fort was in operation during the winter months. I’m sure it was a very isolated life during those snowy months.

The Shoebox Memory from 2008 was the launching of a World War II Submarine in Manitowoc and talked about the WWII efforts around the U.P. and in nearby states like this shipbuilding port on the Great Lakes. The photo actually came from the National Archives.

Charlie Hopper produced a video about the Fort Wilkins Story and published it in Dec. of 2012. The just over 9 minute video is time well spent, especially if you aren’t sure what the story of the Fort Beyond the Wilderness is about.

Thanks for including the video about the Fort Wilkins story. It was very interesting and as you said the "video is time well spent". I learned a great deal about the fort and Charlie did a fantastic job, as usual, in his production and narration.
