If you read the Pasty Cam page, you may have noticed that today’s theme from the archives has to do with “houses”. Yes, Lighthouses and another kind, too. Joe Kirkish starts us off way back in 2000, with the first Lighthouse of the day, the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. This is one of my favorites, as it always looks so crisp and clean sitting there on the rocky shoreline.
Moving on to our next “house”, shared here back in 2009 by Brenda Leigh. That’s a shot of the outhouse on the property where Brenda and some friends snowshoed to for a winter retreat in a cabin, away from civilization and the comforts of home. This little building is a very important “house” for many folks and actually looks to be a bit of a fancy one at that!
We join Melanie Hakala Rossi out at the Breakers for our third archive shot, back in 2012. The focus of this shot is the two little Snow People she made, but in the background you can see the Upper Entry Lighthouse standing out in the sunshine that day.
The last two photos are also from Melanie Hakala Rossi, snapped last weekend up in the Bete Grise area. First she captured a neat angle of the Mendota Lighthouse and then what has become somewhat of a tradition for her in the winter months, she took the time to play for a bit and made a Snow Person snapping a shot of it, scraggly hair and all. That’s a cashew nut for the mouth, so you get an idea of the actual size of this snowy guy. The perspective of the photo makes him look like he could be any size, from tall to small.
I’ve never tried to count all the lighthouses that dot the Upper Peninsula, but I know there are quite a few. Today’s video is a slideshow from 2010, showing some of the Lighthouses along the U.P. shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Navigational “houses” that help Great Lakes boaters safely on their way.

Oh wow! What awesome pictures today. I love every single one of them. Issues or not, the pictures don't need explaining.

Hei All, I just realized it's after midnight, so I can officially wish everyone a Very Happy St. Urho's Day! He's da vun dat sased tose krasshoppers from da Finnish vinyards back before da last ice age up dere. I still have a document signed by Carl Pellonpää making me an Honorary St.Urho's saint. There are really only two kinds of people on dis day, those who are Finnish and those that wish they were. You can find out all about him on Google, many sites there.

Oh wow is right! That's a lot of light to guide ships through the night creating safe passage until there out of sight.

I enjoyed all the lighthouses today. Back in the day the lighthouse keepers had plenty of time for reflection. Purple is the color du jour. I am wearing purple and trying not to think of the Minnesota Vikings:)
