While looking at the past archive photos for today’s picks, the top and bottom shots caught my attention first, since there is hand feeding of critters going on in both of them. The top photo was snapped in 2004, by Dave Moyle and shared by his sister, Patti Vickers, when a wild deer strolled in to the house they were working on, through an open door. It was a deer that hung around in the Bootjack area back then.
I threw the next photo in with the “hands” theme, just because you don’t see the Bishop Baraga statue from this view that often in the winter months. What a grand view of Keweenaw Bay he has from up there and of course he has “hands”, some big ones holding the cross and snowshoes. Brooke Gubacz took this shot back in 2010.
If you’ve been a Pasty Cam viewer for awhile, you’ll probably recognize Pretty Bird in the third photo. George and Paulette Beveridge have had this feathered friend visit them for a number of years and have shared the hand feeding quite a few times on these pages. Pretty Bird had been Pasty Cam famous seven times with this appearance in 2013, make that eight now!
Some folks are just lucky, some are just patient and get wild creatures to trust them enough to eat right out of their hands. Today’s video is from a lady who calls herself, “Lesley the Bird Nerd” and shares one of her bird feeding adventures featuring a variety of feathered friends.

Interesting stuff...and the other videos are cool, too.

That reminds me of my Uncle Frank, of Bruce Crossing; he was quite a “Bird Whisperer”. He could just go walking along the old two-track beyond the end of Larson Road ~ 4+ miles north of M-28 for example, and the birds would land on his shoulders to claim a snack — he used to carry birdseed and they knew it!

I am surprised to see the Blue Jay's being hand fed by the Bird Nerd. They are pretty skittish and untrusting as far as humans are concerned. Unlike their cousin the Gray Jay who is very comfortable around humans.

P.S.: See my previous post for a shining example of why I should never post a message using my iPad! Crazy formatting! Seems the iPad and the forum have different ideas about the width of the message! <Grrr!>
