The winter grinds on. This weekend has seen the extremes: a beautiful sunny Saturday with no wind, temps near freezing... much like the scene on this day in 2000 when Jon Hopper spotted the SnoGo near the Eagle River monument, and the peaceful Phoenix Church glimpsed by Melanie Hakala Rossi on the same day in 2011. Suddenly this morning the scene changed, and it has been snowing horizontally all day, with wind gusts like Steve Brimm captured on Feb 25 in 2013. Somehow even in this isolation of the winter months, we still dig out and find the quiet beauty and the awesome power around us.
Next weekend: Copper Dog 150, coming to the Copper Country. The video from a few years back (and earlier that season) holds out hope that the mushers will find plenty of good sledding here in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Have a good week :o)

2013...magnificent! Not a smidgen of snow to be found in SE-MI...winter's on it's way out.
