Today’s archive photo theme is dog sledding, but from a different aspect than just the race. We start out with a photo from W.R. Maki, snapped in 2002 and isn’t actually a dog sledding photo of the professional type, but there is a dog and there is a sled and a cute youngster getting a ride from said dog, so I think it qualifies.
The next photo was taken in 2007, by David Murto, showing how the sled dogs get to the races. They each have their own compartment in the specially built box in the back of the musher’s pickup truck.
The third photo is from Brenda Leigh who was in Marquette for the race in 2010. She snapped a shot of the track on Washington Street where it connects onto Lakeshore Boulevard. Lots of preparation goes into making sure the track along the streets of Marquette is in good shape for the dogs and sleds.
Just last week, on Wednesday (Valentine’s Day), Lori Ann DeRoche took advantage of the unseasonably warm temperature of 49° in Marquette, along with a number of other folks and headed to Lakeshore Drive on the waterfront. The ice there was smooth and clear of snow, so folks were ice skating, playing hockey and even winter wind surfing. Lori snapped photos and recorded a video of the people out making the best of the warmth and sunshine there in Marquette’s Harbor. Us Yoopers make fun wherever and whenever we can in the winter months!

Nice pics and video, the lower harbor is looking fantastic and it's a very nice drive along there now.
