The Michigan Tech Winter Carnival happens in February most years, so the archives the first couple weeks of the month have plenty of Carnival activities going on. Looking back on this day, we find construction underway in 2003, with a shot from Donn de Yampert. You can see how the students “stage” the scaffolding, so as to get to the higher parts of their masterpieces.
Julie Steimel snapped a shot of a statue with an icy looking chain draped across some snowy posts, back in 2007. It always amazes me how these students create such delicate details like this.
Last years Winter Carnival brought Mary Schmitt and her grandkids out for a look at the statues all lit up at night. Looks like the kiddos are getting to know this fellow with the icy stare. Note, there is also a chain and what looks like ice posts on this statue...again, quite amazing to me, no matter how many times you see them.
This year’s Statues are just as intricate and detailed, as Ashlee Harvey found when she was walking around checking them out over the weekend with her family. This one took first place and has a Viking theme with the ship headed straight for the camera! Today’s video has scenes from the 2007 All-Nighter competition, part of a larger video from MTU. Stay warm!

Pardon the technical difficulties for the appearance of today's Pasty Cam. A close call to a perfect 20 year record, as of Feb 28. And it looks like we may also hit 1 million pasties sold very soon.
