Today's archive theme is a broad one and it covers so many of the photos we've shared on these pages in the past 19 years: UP North Beauty! We start up on Quincy Hill with a shot from Deanna Wercinski. It was shared as part of a Shoebox Memory in 2001 and certainly shows why this Great Lakes region is someplace special to so many.

The next photo was snapped by Taka Aoki back in 2002. He was standing on College Avenue in Houghton to capture the Christmas tree on Tech's campus with the lights of Mont Ripley in the background. I love how the lights on the ski hill look like stars!

We head north for the next shot, taken by Roger Kangas in 2004. Christmas nightlife in downtown Calumet on 5th street, with snow a-blowing and the lights a-glowing, makes a great holiday scene. The street looks a bit deserted, though, making one wonder what time of night Roger was out snapping pictures.

We jump ahead a number of years to the present, with a photo Steve Brimm snapped a couple days back on the Winter Solstice. Copper Harbor is a magical place to begin with, but when Steve spins his magic with his camera, it is truly something to behold.

So we've been all around the Keweenaw here today and our last stop brings us full circle back to Mont Ripley to watch some daring skiers and snowboarders performing their tricks under the lights.

Steve Brimm's photo of Double Harbor in Copper
Harbor is beautiful!! I once owned one of those
quaint cabins right there on Harbor Lane across
from the boat house. Lots of great memories
there. Time and life marches on. Merry Christmas
Everyone!!

I think that 2002 photo is quite old. That's the old College Motel still there next to the TKE House. It seems to be taken with a long telephoto lens to make Mt. Ripley appear so large.

We lucked out for Christmas here in IL with a couple of inches of snow this morning. Looks like it will stay cold enough to last just through a White Christmas. Then it can all melt. Maybe Spring is just around the corner. My, how I hate the snow now days.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes to all my Pasty Central friends.
