Today’s look-back into the past 19 years of Pasty Cam photos is all about boats and Lady Superior. We start way back in the early years, 1999, with a shot of a freighter just chugging along in Lake Superior. This is the time of year when the shipping season gets iffy. High winds, blowing snow and crashing waves are common in November and make the shipping season tricky.

Another big boat shot was shared by Taana Kalliainen back in 2010. She spotted a freighter waiting out the high winds between the lighthouse out at Jacobsville and Chassell Bay. She withstood the gusts to set up her tripod and snap a few shots of one of the freighters all lit up and looking rather festive.

Then in 2013, Mike Schneider was out in the Black Rocks area in Marquette when Lake Superior was rocking and rolling, crashing waves against the rocks and making quite a splashy showing.

Just about a month ago, we had a doozy of a storm in which Lake Superior was recorded with waves of 28 feet on the data buoys. Today’s video was captured during that storm and shows the large waves, some surfers, water rushing onto the beach and the roadways. When Lake Superior gets riled UP, it’s quite the show.

I believe the 1999 freighter shot was by John Anderson

I love everything about today's pasty cam page.
That video is extraordinary!

We should also remember that very same storm this past month also took the lives of two people from Iron River. They either had not learned to respect the power or severely misjudged it. Those same waves in the video washed the couple off the rocks and their bodies were never recovered.

The man that swept away, they found him by the lower docks. He was positively identified as the missing man.
