Today’s grouping of archive photos, plus one current shot are all about the snow! Starting in 2000, Jon Hopper, along with Charlie, stopped at the Snow Thermometer on US 41 for a wintry photo shoot. They didn’t stay long, because the weather wasn’t the best. Did you know that Pasty Central actually started with pictures of the Snow Thermometer? Back in '95, almost a year before we registered the domain name "pasty.com", we kept a page showing the snow depth, which to-date measures 37 inches already.

The second snow shot was snapped by David Soumis back in 2005. He was on the road, heading towards L’Anse when he took this photo heading around Keweenaw Bay. I like the way the sun was catching the Bishop Baraga Shrine, along with making the snow cover brighter, too. At least the road looks less treacherous with it mostly bare pavement.

Next we have a photo taken out in Bootjack by Linda Schneller. The year was 2011 and the snow kept falling and falling and falling, covering everything in sight, including these trees in Linda’s yard. If you're wondering about the wooden structure on the right side of the photo, that's where the Schneller’s prop up the Christmas trees they'll be selling, beginning this Friday at their Bootjack home. So if you're looking for a beautiful "real" tree this year, head on out to 48025 Bootjack Road, in Lake Linden... any tree on the lot, $30. And no, that's not including the ones in today's archive photo, those are permanent in Linda's yard.

We’ve arrived at 2017 with a shot from Barbara Bouwkamp on Pewabic street in Laurium. She snapped this after what she called a “harrowing” drive from Hancock to Calumet, via the “lower” road, meaning M26, rather than the “upper” highway, meaning US41. The “lower” road is usually a better route during snowy conditions, because it’s a lower elevation and gets less snow.

Since we’re talking about winter driving conditions, let’s join Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel, on his visit here to the Keweenaw in 2016. He stopped by the Keweenaw Research Center and tested winter tires for braking in snow and ice. Check it out...

Nice pix! Keweenaw Bay on 41 was always a favorite ride on the Wing (in summer).
Cantore from TWC sure does get around.

I love the Keweenaw Bay area. I also love the
2011 picture. It always reminds me of the Charlie
Brown Christmas cartoon.

Wow, $30 for a real tree! That's a bargain! Heard
there's a live Christmas tree shortage this year but
didn't hear why.

When I was growing up, sometimes we could not afford a Christmas tree. We, as kids, went to sleep one Christmas without a tree. Woke up the next morning and my mom had painted a Christmas on the wall. I am telling you....I loved it...;O) My mom was always doing things like that, just made it so magical at times.

Wow!! That's great, Mickill! Memories!
