Some days my job searching the archives is easy, other days not so much, because I can't decide which beautiful U.P. shots to feature. That's how it was for today with a number of interesting photos over the past 19 years. My decision starts with Donn de Yampert's photo that was featured in 2004. In case you can't tell, that’s the view from Quincy Hill, with the home of the Huskies poking up through the clouds. Or is that a blanket of fog? If it is, that sure must be what folks refer to as "pea soup thick".

The next choice is a favorite of mine shared in 2006, from Shawn & Brian Malone over at Lake Superior Photo in Marquette. The color of the Lake Superior waters, the action of the waves captured in mid-crash, it just shows the raw power this Big Lake possesses when the winds get her whipped into a frenzy.

Then Mike Schneider, over at Superior Seasons Photography, jumps in to calm things down again in 2012. He snapped a late fall shot with a wispy looking cloud formation stretching across the blue Marquette area skies.

All three of these past photos are perfect examples of the beauty that can be found all around the Upper Peninsula, so that started my wheels turning for today's video feature. The U.P. is Someplace Special for sure, so who remembers the old TV6 ads with that same slogan? Here's one to refresh your memory…this one was featured on the 60th anniversary special in 2016.

What a great variety of pictures today. I'm with
JBuck, though I love the 2004 picture also. And
Upper Michigan really is someplace special!

Great pictures showing the different faces of the UP. I like the second picture that shows the aquamarine color of the lake.

Sweet pix! And the video is pretty cool, too. A buddy and me tried hitching a ride once years ago after I drove my car into a ditch (sucker came out of nowhere), but nobody pave us a ride. Picked up a few people, as well, years ago...I don't think I would do that now.

Hi
I have the 2006 picture saved as a late fall wallpaper, called "Cold Lake".

I've also seen it in a calendar, though the color is slightly off in that.

That first pic: "2004: View from Quincy Hill" looks like a …
(click →) dust storm in Phoenix, AZ!

I cannot remember the last time I even saw someone hitchhiking, anywhere. But I can tell you when the last time I hitchhiked. It was 1976 in the U.P. I went 4 years at Tech without a car or even a roommate or friend with a car. Although I did spend one very cold November night, along side the road, at some four corners somewhere between Seney and Newberry when I couldn't get any ride. But overall my thumb was quite reliable.
