In case you haven't heard, the U.P. received its first snowfall of the year with places in higher elevations accumulating quite a few inches on the ground. Other areas just had flakes in the air and nothing sticking to the ground. Checking back through the archives shows that it's not unusual to have snow this time of year UP North. In 2001, Jonathan Hopper shared a shriveled looking pumpkin resting up against a small snowman made from the white stuff that had fallen that year.
Then in 2006, Paul Roberts was on top of Brockway Mountain in Copper Harbor, watching a snow squall moving across Lake Superior. I don't have info whether this squall dropped snow over the land, but it sure is impressive watching the clouds dropping snow in action.
Jump ahead to 2014 with Melanie Hakala Rossi to a snowless end of October and a lineup of "talking pumpkins", ready to greet everyone passing by. What a fun idea!
As I mentioned in the first paragraph, this past Friday and Saturday, a number of higher elevation areas received measureable snowfall, up to a foot in places. Steve Jurmu shared a snowy video adventure that he recorded on the Cliffs near Phoenix. In the video, he reports the areas that did and did not receive snow during this early storm. It always amazes me that one locale can get 8 inches of snow, when another 5 miles away has none

Just love that snow squall picture. Temps have sure changed. The kids are going to have a very cold day for trick-or-treating. I am not ready for this.
Wou, man...give me a moment to ease into the coming reality. Nice video with good interpretations and if I could, I'd take Steve up on his invitation. However, I do appreciate the video...thanks.

Watching Steve talking about being careful and then backing over to the edge made me very nervous!

I too think the snow squall picture is neat. I just came back from the store where I bought a can of air freshener called Hawaiian Breeze. It is my only antidote for winter. Coupled with a little bit of imagination it works wonders.

That's what I'm talk'n bout, Duane...now all you need is a couple buckets of sand, a deck chair, a Jimmy Buffet cd and your in business. :-)

Okay, guys. You "got your toes in the water, A.. in the sand", right??

What I hear when I put the can of Hawaiian Breeze to my ear.
I'm not sure if I was allowed to do that.

Maui Mountain Home is a good one Duane. Thanks for posting that. I just copied the link and I was transported to Hawaii instantly.
