Today's theme from the past 19 years in the archive is colorful U.P. highways. In 2005, Brian & Shawn Malone were checking out the old steel bridge on County Road 510 in Negaunee Township and just look at the color surrounding it. Back when this photo was snapped, it was still a functioning bridge and roadway, but then in 2010 a new bridge was built and this historic old bridge was kept as a pedestrian pathway and for its historical significance. If you'd like to read more about it, click on this link: CR 510 Steel Bridge.
Moving forward to 2009, we find ourselves driving along M-94 near Munising, with Brenda Leigh. Well, she's not exactly driving with this photo, but stopped alongside the highway to snap the colorful "valley" where the road dips and climbs again. A veritable sea of color!
E. Neil Harri shared this aerial view of Laurium, showing US41 curving into town, back in 2013. The trees are turned out in color both in town and beyond. Fun to pick out the different places you recognize down below.
Our last photo was snapped recently when Aladino Mandoli was making a color tour to Copper Harbor. The curve in the road, the brilliant yellow leaves, the lady there taking a selfie…the only word I can think to describe this one is "amazing". THIS, is what makes fall here in the Copper Country so outstanding.
In case you didn't get to take a color tour this year, we can fix that for you. Our video clip today was filmed in 2014 by Zechariah McCarthy. It captures the Keweenaw both on the road and on the trail. The biking portion scares the daylights out of me, but it is fun to watch!

Absolutely breathtaking. You look at the first picture and think it can't be topped until you see the 2nd and then the 4th. And as much as I love bridges, I have to go with the 4th. The video was beautiful also, but that biker is a little on the crazy side. That's one brave biker.

Very nice pix and I agree Deb...the bike ride was pretty cool. At first I thought those were someone's BVDs hanging out to dry.

An observation from E. B. White: "I am pessimistic about the human race because it is too ingenious for its own good. Our approach to nature is to beat it into submission. We would stand a better chance of survival if we accommodated ourselves to his planet and viewed it appreciatively instead of skeptically and dictatorially."

Greetings:
To me the title of the photo, "2013: Bird's eye view of Laurium" should be titled the "2013: Bird's eye view of Calumet".
Did anybody see the gem that JV pitched in Game 6? Sure hope they win tonight. Go Astros!

I sure did Deb. Two games 16 innings and no runs allowed. I hope they win too. I want him to win three games in the World Series like Mickey Lolich did years ago.

He's so awesome! 1968 was a great World Series!!!! I'd love to see JV do that also. It will be tough to win in New York, but they can do it!

Yes...an exciting series! It's like Detroit is still in it. Besides, Detroit taught JV everything he knows...we deserve a little excitement.

Looks like the high school to the right, and the Armory (or whatever they call it now). One thing's for sure, the lake is out there in the distance.
