Picture #2, 2010: Downtown Houghton:
I still can't get used to seeing that view without the old pedestrian bridge across Shelden Ave. 'tho I have to admit that it being gone sure makes for a much nicer view!
Picture #3, 2011: Window view:
That looks so much like the view from my folks' retirement home in Chassell, looking south across Fifth Street (C-P road), except that brilliant crimson Maple tree was on the other side of the road.
I sure did love that place, and was seriously planning on retiring there … until a little heart attack and a land speed record 4-mile ride to a local Phoenix hospital, with a cardiac arrest on arrival there, in 2009.
After that, with the prospect of experiencing a life threatening event in Chassell, MI, possibly in a mid-winter blizzard, a ≈12 mile ambulance ride across the bridge to Portage Hospital in Hancock for not much more than a "stabilization" exercise, followed by a 'nuther ≈100 mile ambulance ride to Marquette General Hospital, still in a mid-winter blizzard, and I decided to forget about that plan!
(Whut? Who in their right mind retires from Phoenix, AZ to "da 'Nort woods", eh? A crazy Yooper, maybe!).
