Today's "look-back" into the archive of photos doesn't really have a central theme, except for leaves, which is pretty much the theme for this entire month so far. The leaves featured back in 2006, were mostly on the ground, where Ray Laakaniemi was walking his four-legged friend, Baxter. He struck the pose in the photo because he had spotted a chipmunk and was probably thinking hard about giving chase to that little critter.

The archive photo from 2010 has something in common with one of the photos that appeared on last Saturday's Pasty Cam, October 14th. Do you recognize the "dome" from that day, on top the Douglass House in downtown Houghton? Bob Gilreath snapped this shot looking down Sheldon Ave., with some of the color that was still hanging on that year, up ahead.

Mike Schneider decided to share his 2011 view out the window, with some vibrant colors lining the street. This would be a great shot to blow up and frame. Then you'd feel like you have an extra window wherever you decide to hang it.

Today's video feature is a bit different than what we've been sharing lately, but I think you'll enjoy it. Here's a bit of trivia for you first…Michigan was named after the Ojibwe Indian word, "Michigama", which means "great lake" or "land surrounded by water." There are a number uniquely-named towns and cities across the U.P. and Lower Peninsula, so Pure Michigan set out to see how well Michiganders do at the correct pronunciation of a few of the hard to pronounce Great Lake State destinations. See how well you do...

Great pics, top one is my favorite, my dog Finn would love to tear that up! Video was funny, I would have bet money that the word "Keweenaw" would have been included in there as well. Have a great day all!!

Gray Beast" Ahmeek is "Beaver" Manitou Island is

Picture #2, 2010: Downtown Houghton:
I still can't get used to seeing that view without the old pedestrian bridge across Shelden Ave. 'tho I have to admit that it being gone sure makes for a much nicer view!

Picture #3, 2011: Window view:
That looks so much like the view from my folks' retirement home in Chassell, looking south across Fifth Street (C-P road), except that brilliant crimson Maple tree was on the other side of the road.

I sure did love that place, and was seriously planning on retiring there … until a little heart attack and a land speed record 4-mile ride to a local Phoenix hospital, with a cardiac arrest on arrival there, in 2009.

After that, with the prospect of experiencing a life threatening event in Chassell, MI, possibly in a mid-winter blizzard, a ≈12 mile ambulance ride across the bridge to Portage Hospital in Hancock for not much more than a "stabilization" exercise, followed by a 'nuther ≈100 mile ambulance ride to Marquette General Hospital, still in a mid-winter blizzard, and I decided to forget about that plan!

(Whut? Who in their right mind retires from Phoenix, AZ to "da 'Nort woods", eh? A crazy Yooper, maybe!).
