If your destination to Upper Michigan is from Lower Michigan or Canada, you have to cross a bridge to get there. And remarkable bridges they are, engineering marvels that transport thousands of travels each day into this magical land we call "the U.P."... even more magical this time of year with the dazzling colors and the change of the season.

Today's 20th year victory lap for the Pasty Cam takes us to the sunrise end of the Peninsula, with shots of the Mighty Mac (2008) and International Bridge (2016) by Doug Grusser and Bob Gilreath respectively. And thanks to the folks at Pure Michigan for a very pleasant 3 minute tour of the beautiful Soo area.

Have a good week :o)

Beautiful video...thanks for this morning's tour!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 09:26 am:

Beautiful video is right, Alex. Another one of
those that make me miss home. At least the winter
ones won't do that, lol.

Those pictures of the bridges are great. Love
crossing them, especially the Big Mac.

Great way to start my Sunday!!

we took a ride up to Copper Harbor yesterday, before the sun was even waking up. Wanted to try and catch the sun coming up from that lookout point, on the way to the top of Brockway Mountain Drive. It was beautiful to watch the sunrise from there. There were even jets, if you will, that were making streaks in the sky. The harbor was still dark, but the colors were beautiful.

I also wanted to get some pictures of the Mountain Lodge, in case this new company wanted to make some changes. That is all I am going to say about that......

By Donna (Donna) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 10:38 am:

Ahhhhhhh Mickill...I did a Harbor run one year...on
the night of the full Harvest Moon...Up on top of
Brockway to watch the sun come up....what a
monumental day! We saw all weather up there
too...one area had rain, one had snow...some had
the sun...phenomenal....just phenomenal! You sure
have to get up early to pull that one off tho, hey?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 10:56 am:

My step-son stayed at the Mtn. Lodge the past
couple of nights. I wonder if he got up to see
the sunrise. That would have been awesome!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 12:32 pm:

Donna: I bet that was a beautiful site to see. :O). I even took a little movie, while Bill was driving, driving along side of the stone wall to the entrance. I bought a new digital camera and not quite sure how to fully operate it, but, it came out pretty good.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 12:39 pm:

Donna....Yes in deedy', you have to get up early to see that.

Also. At great sand bay, where they built the steps to get down to the beach....the steps are closed off because the beach is all gone. You look down to the bottom of the steps and all you see is water. That was weird to see.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 12:41 pm:

I wanted to post,,,that is mother nature at it's best, at the end of my last post.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 12:44 pm:

Deb....was your step-son there to golf? That is what was going on when we pulled in to take some pictures of the lodge.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 02:12 pm:

Mickill, no, it was a work thing. Not
sure what they were doing. But he sent
pictures from the way tub and along the
lake shore. It was beautiful!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 02:19 pm:

Deb....We saw 2 or 3 people with, what I think, was a movie camera or a camera on a tripod, taking pictures. Then in Eagle River, we saw 2 men on the old bridge with a camera, on a tripod, facing the lake.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 - 02:27 pm:

Cool. Could have been them because it's just him
and his boss!!

Although the (click →) The Foliage Network1 is reporting "Moderate Color" with "Low Leaf Drop" across the entire UP (as of Thursday September 28) …
see their current (click →) Midwest Foliage Reports,

… the Copper Country web cams don't yet show very much color.
For example, see the outstanding (click →) Michigan Tech streaming web cams — over a dozen web cams; some of the very best I've ever seen, and their time-lapse videos are kinda neat too! I just wish more web cams were that well done!

One lone tree at MTU has been red for about a week now.

And if you happen to look at that live streaming video at night, as I did, see the tree here (a shrunken screen capture from the timelapse video):

I just arrived in Houghton tonight. I came through Wisconsin and did not see any color at all until I got to the Tomahawk/Eagle River area, just south of the MI state line. Very little color anywhere, although many Birch and Aspen have already dropped their leaves. Not sure how yellow they were before that. Hardly any reds yet. I fear I'm way too early although it was dark out by the time I got to South Range. At least the Ambassador pizza was great tonight. Oh well, may have to switch over to water fall hunting. Always *something* to do.

Supposed to be rainy Monday and especially Tuesday. I'll make a quick trip to Brockway tomorrow to see what's what and then probably finally find the Slate quarry just east of L'Anse. I need to put my new 4x4 pickup to the use it was built for. Slate River, Silver River, Huron River...here I come.

Nice weather but cloudy Wednesday - Friday.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Monday, October 2, 2017 - 12:02 am:

Alex, I could watch those web cams all day. Some
days I do. The time lapses are great too. A few
months ago I got MTU to change thinges to allow
you to download the timelapse files.

The bridge at the Sault used to be called the International Peace Bridge. They don't call it that anymore? Hmm.
