In today's look back at the past 19 years of Pasty Cam photos, the common theme is just plain water. We begin in 2005, with an outstanding shot from Dennis Kemper, of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge under the light of the moon. The reflections on Portage Lake make the whole scene just glow.

Paul Meier snapped another beauty in 2008. He was on the shores of Lake Superior when the sun was going down for the day and captured the pink tinge on the clouds and skyline. The breezes keep blowing, the sun keeps setting, the day starts coming to a close and Mother Nature provides the skies UP North with a grand finale to the day. Beautiful!

Our current photos today, come from Bob Williams. He was out at Big Traverse recently, when they were busy dredging the stamp sand out of the channel. Those stamp sands were going right across the channel, just about blocking it and the dredge is clearing it out. There is an auger on the front end and tube out the back that is supported by plastic drums. The tube extends a long way down the beach where the sand is dumped. Quite the process for sure.

Today's video clip will take you to the shores of Little Traverse Bay, just around the corner from the Big Traverse channel. It was made on a beautifully calm day on the shores of Lake Superior back in 2015. Enjoy the blue skies and the calming sounds of the lapping water.

Great pictures. I totally love the one of the
bridge. But there's not a bad picture of the
bridge. That video is mesmerizing. That was
always our go to place to swim but it is now all
private beach. Now we go to Big Traverse instead.
Pretty much just as good. Love that lake!

Nice pix and the video was incredible! Nice and steady, slow movement that allows one to take it all in. Don't forget to full-screen it.

"Mellow Day at Little Traverse Bay" — Now that video was theraputic1!

And it reminded me of the ol' Hamms Beer commercial (that and many similar ones). "Clear Blue Waters", aaah, you betcha!

1Unlike yesterday's agonizing, numbing railroad video, "Soo Line 4410 to Humboldt", moving along at the "blinding electronic, er… diesel speed" of "two leagues per fortnight"
(≈ 0.0083333333333333 miles per hour,
or ≈ 0.0122222222222222 feet per second)! 😖

Nice pics and video, Deb, have you ever swam at Bete Grise? All sand, highly recommend it if you haven't yet.

In the Summer of 2016 I was on the MTU research vessel RV Agassiz and we had a somewhat difficult time getting through that channel. The stamp sands at Gay are certainly a phenomenal sight but their movement by the Lake continues to create huge problems for those in the area. The entire beach of many of the cabins are now nothing but stamp sands.

Yep, U.C., have gone swimming at Bete
Grise many times. Love it there. Have
stopped at many places between Gay and Lac
La Belle to swim and just walk the
beaches. Love it. Saw your house on one
of our drives.

Love the video.

Looking at "Bridge Over Calm Waters" is a lovely way to start the
day. I've been to Bete Grise many times, but never done more than
wade in the water.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 - 09:01 am:

Kosk, there have been times when I've been out
there that the water was so warm that we were in
for a couple of hours. Same with Little & Big
Traverse. The wind just has to be right.
