People young and old have always appeared on the Pasty Cam throughout the past 19 years. Some folks who've appeared were from the earlier days in the Keweenaw, like the photo shared in 2002 by Paul Meier, of Katie Long, the Postmistress of Eagle River from 1923 to 1958. Paul had this to say about the mail back then: During Katie's time, the mail arrived daily and just about everyone in town would come to the post office to pick theirs up after Katie sorted it. The time of day was totally dependent on the arrival of the Copper Country Limited in Calumet. If the train was late, the mail was late. This made the the post office one of the social centers of the town.
These folks hanging out on the rock ledge in the second photo, were photographed in 2007 by Debra McCumber on a family outing to Piers Gorge, which is located in Dickinson County, south of Norway on the Michigan/Wisconsin border.
The last scene was snapped by Charlie Hopper on an Autumn stroll with Edie and Shadow and shared back in 2013. Charlie also shared the following this day four years ago: It has been our mission to bring "A Glimpse of Life from the U.P." for over 15 years. The people, the places, the history often quietly include four-legged friends, sometimes hardly even noticed. We appreciate each one.
Today's video was created by Devin Leonarduzzi, Amanda McConnon, and Cassy Tefft de Muņoz as part of the Leadership Keweenaw Program and spotlights "Life in the Keweenaw". This glimpse into the area, shows how it can be whatever you want it to be!
