Rocks, big and small have made many appearances here on the Pasty Cam throughout the past 19 years. Some of these rocks are permanent on the shores, some that have been picked for various projects or collections. I'm not positive where the rocks that make up the water fountain at the Copper Falls roadside park came from, but I'd guess the shores of Lake Superior. This little park is located on the Eagle Harbor cutoff road and is also home to the lookout tower there.

Prospector's Paradise is located in Allouez and appeared on the Pasty Cam this day in 2009. Paul Halonen snapped this photo of the rock hound's dream, advertised as "A world class rock shop and ancient copper culture museum."

Paul Brandes (a.k.a Capt. Paul) and Nathalie (a.k.a Dr. Nat) are what you could call rock hounds, since they're both Geologists. They were here in the U.P. in August and made a visit to the Ishpeming Rock Show to see what they had in the line of rocks. My favorite is the bottom photo, which I'm assuming is a Lake Superior Agate and what an outstanding specimen it is!

To complete our day of rocks and since agates are a favorite of many, we're joining Discovering, with a visit to Grand Marais and the Gitche Gumee Agate and History Museum.

Hmmmmm, I don't remember ever seeing that water
fountain. I guess we're going to have to take a
ride along that road to find it. Love that huge

I have a friend, and she and I and whoever we drag
with us go agate picking every Labor Day. This year
we did the Sunday prior, and it was a stunning
day....this has to be close to our 30th year doing
it....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this vid....and all the
agates!

Prospector's Paradise has some phenomenal rocks
inside too, and a Vortex up in the back...way
cool..if you've never been there...you need to go!

I don't think that fountain (which is actually an artesian well) is there anymore, Deb. At least I don't remember seeing it the past few times we have been up that way. I could be wrong, however. I believe some of the rocks that made up the fountain were from Lake Superior, others from the nearby Copper Falls Mine.

The Ishpeming and Houghton mineral shows and the Quincy Hill Swap are a real treat and should be on everyone's list to visit if you're in the area the first week of August. We always try to visit all three as they have some very unique minerals, gems, and mining artifacts for sale.

The bottom photo is indeed a Lake Superior Agate. That same vendor at Ishpeming had smaller and larger sizes with one about the size of a mango or small cantaloupe. The one Nathalie is holding is about 2.5 or so inches across. Instead of buying, we tried our luck along the Keweenaw beaches while there and managed to get several small ones and three larger agates, the biggest being about 2 inches across.

What can I say about the Prospectors Paradise other than it is an interesting place to visit.....

Interesting...2017 looks like an organ.
