Today's look back at the past 19 years is all about bridges and beaches. Yesterday's first archive shot was the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge walk, but it didn't show much of the bridge, really, so today's photo from 2005 makes up for that. Shelley Trowbridge snapped this shot of the Big Mac in all her glory. Looking across the lake to the other side, it's hard to imagine the days when folks lined up to wait for the ferry to make the crossing that we just take for granted now.
In 2010, the Shoebox Memory took us back to the 1920's at the Eagle River Beach. John Kline shared the photo of three young girls swinging there. What I found most interesting about this shot, is the lack of trees that you see there today. The swing set is long gone, too, how fun it would be to have that there on the beach today.
The bridge in the third photo, is the Black River Harbor suspension bridge, snapped by Deb and Ron Simons while they were here in the U.P. last week. It sure is an interesting structure and from what I understand, is made completely of wood, except for the cables. It is open to foot traffic only.
And then the fourth photo, also snapped by Deb and Ron Simons, is the beach there at Black River Harbor in the Bessemer area. It was a cloudy, somewhat rainy day, but it sure looks like a nice place to be when the sun is shining bright, warming up all that sand!
In case you haven't gotten your fill of the Black River Harbor area, today's video takes us on a birdseye trip around the area. Enjoy the music and the tour!

Nicely done and good timing with the sunlight.

Oh my, that video made me want to go back
right now. The only thing that would have
made it better would have been to follow
the River up past all of the beautiful
waterfalls on the river. Thanks for
sharing that.

A few years ago we were at the Black River Harbor Bridge and our dog refused to cross it!
