This time of year must be the season for rainstorms UP North, judging by the photos that appeared in the past 19 years in our archives. Starting with the 2010 shot from Nicky Outinen with the smokestack near the Dredge in Mason, bordered by the arc of a rainbow. I like the way it highlights this old historical part of the Copper Country history.

Another rainbow was featured this day in 2013, with Steve Brimm. An amazing capture of the complete arc of the rainbow and its reflection over Copper Harbor where the Queen docks, along with Hunter and Porter Islands there.

The third photo shows some dandy storm clouds over a corn field in the Norway area, snapped by Melody Provost Holmes in 2014. I like the small glimpse of blue sky just above the puffy whiteness and dark gray clouds below it. Lots going on in this photo representing calm (the blue sky), the warning of what's to come (the puffy white storm cloud) and the storm brewing (the dark cloud just above the corn field). Those dark clouds really make the tasseled out cornstalks stand out.

Our video feature today, takes us high above Lake Superior, flying alongside the Keweenaw and a bank of clouds just hovering over the land. It's just a short clip, but pretty neat to be UP there at 1800', going 140 mph.

Very nice!
"Rainbows all around
Can you find the silver and gold?
It'll make you old
The river can be hot or cold
And you should dive right into it
Else you'll find
It's passed you by

Pass it 'round one more time
I think I'll have a swallow of wine
Life is fine
Even with the ups and downs
And you should have a sip of it
Else you'll find
It's passed you by"

Those rainbows are truly remarkable! Today in Marquette County
we haven't had any rainbows, just rain. Maybe later?

Happy Birthday, Ron (aka Mr. Deb)

Happy B-Day, Mr. Deb! Hope your day is a wonderful one.

Thanks to all who were concerned about us here in the tropics. Thankfully, we only had a couple leaks here and there where the wind/rain drove it in, but otherwise high and dry. Today the sun is out and the winds are relaxing a bit, but in Houston it's still a disaster. Nat and I are off until Sept. 5 because while the rains have stopped, the roads are still flooded over. Below is a photo from Monday showing a typical scene around our area. I'll see if I can post some other photos later once I resize them....

Glad you and Nat are safe. What a disaster down
there. So sad. They could do with some of those
rainbows promising better days ahead. The rainbow
over Copper Harbor is spectacular!!

The rainbow over Copper Harbor picture could possibly be the best rainbow picture I have ever seen.

Whoooeee! Glad to hear you & Dr. Nat are high and dry! Although I sure can't imagine how y'all got home from Western Kentucky, I'm glad you made it.

Thanks Capt Paul & Dr Nat for posting your "safe" news, glad you're ok, and happy birthday Ron (Mr Deb)!

Oh gosh.... Only I went up to W. Kentucky for the eclipse, and it was only for a couple days. I left Sunday, saw the eclipse Monday and was back here Tuesday afternoon, so a short trip with lots of driving.

Anyway, yes we're are just fine. Here is another photo of the flooding from Monday. I'm sure most of you have heard of Cypress Creek on the news. Well, this photo was taken about 3 miles away from the creek so you can see just how far the water rose. I understand at the bridge 3 miles down the road the water was well over 25 ft. deep.
