The Pasty Cam has shared quite a few historic photos and background in the past 19 years. Interesting things that we may not know about or have forgotten, like back in 2002, when Dan Jamison shared today's first photo of the Keweenaw Central Railroad 2929 400 HP Pullman "Doodlebug" mail/baggage locomotive. He said this was the last loco used on the Keweenaw Central in the summer of 1971.

Our own Charlie Hopper shared the second photo in 2012, when the Keweenaw County Courthouse was getting a new roof and the Board of Commissioners were asking voters to approve a millage in the August Primary. The millage was to help fund residing the building, furnaces, lighting and insulation, in addition to the roof already in progress. Keeping up historic buildings here in the Keweenaw is an important investment.

Just three years ago, in 2014, Laura Gauthier and her family made a trip to the Straits of Mackinac, partaking in things above and below the bridge, including a visit to Fort Michilimackinac, which is technically in the lower peninsula, but close enough to the U.P. to be featured on the Pasty Cam, since you can see the Mackinac Bridge and the U.P. from there.

In case you've never visited the Fort, today's video will be of interest to you, seeing some of the history preserved there on the other side of the Big Mac.

Very interesting video. We've never stopped there
during our travels to the area. We're probably
going to have to now.

We use to go to the fort a lot of times when we were kids, or should I say my mom use to take us. Then we use to cross the bridge and go to mystery spot. Out of all the times Bill and I came back and forth, to check on my mom in Lake Linden, I could never get Bill to stop at mystery spot or call of the wild.

Great video...thanks for the tour!
Was I hallucinating (again) or did I see tee-pees and wigwams? My shrink says that I need to relax...he thinks I'm a two tents.

Hi
Just a note, it is the Straits (not Straights) of Mackinac. Fort Michilimackinac is worth a visit. All the buildings (including the Native American shelters-yes, they are there, Alex) are reconstructions not the original structures. The fort is an active archeology site.

I've been by there mucho times and have never stopped to look either. Shame on me. It looks very interesting. I didn't realize that it was a fort before we were a nation.
