As we continue looking through the plethora of photos that have been featured in the past 19 years, some shots are older than others. I'm referring to the "Shoebox Memory" photos that have appeared on these pages, like the one in 2002 from the Paul Meier collection. The photo was actually taken by his father, Fredrick Haun sometime in the 20's and shows the Eagle River Lighthouse, including the light keeper's home which eventually burned down.

A newer photo, but of another historic building located on US 45 between Bruce Crossing and Paulding was snapped by Steve Haagen. That's the Maple Grove Town Hall, which was established in 1904. I'm not positive if it's still being used for wedding receptions and parties, but back in 2006 when the photo was first featured, that was the story.

Last but not least, back in 2009, Robert Halonen visited the small town of Michigamme, where scenes from the movie Anatomy of a Murder were filmed. The Crock and Rocker building pictured was the backdrop where local "extras" crowded the town square. It was there at Main and Brook streets that a number of scenes for the 1959 movie were filmed. Pretty exciting for a small U.P. town!

Today's video is a movie trailer for Anatomy of a Murder which I found quite interesting and amusing. It was clever the way they used movie scenes and dubbed over with different wording to advertise the famous movie. Enjoy!

OH wow! How enjoyable was that trailer?? I loved
it! I have to admit that I've not seen that
movie. I am going to try to watch wait. I love
James Stewart and I can't remember what television
show Ben Gazzara was in...maybe Route 66 but I
can't remember for sure. Fun to see all of those
old faces. Thanks for the memories, Mary!!

Just told my mom that the Maple Grove building is
on pasty.com and she said "I think they'd have a
lot more going on there if they had indoor
plumbing." Yoopers! Love it.

Deb: You can go to ebay and type in Anatomy Of A Murder DVD (or whatevery way you have to watch it. Or go to youtube and type in Anatomy Of A Murder movie. Make a bowl of popcorn, put your computer monitor on full screen, kick back and enjoy the movie.
I have never seen the trailer before it was really neat. I like the way the John Voelker and Otto Preminger exchanges in the beginning. Just by facial features I always thought Voelker should have been played by John Wayne.

Love Jimmy Stewart and the trailer was fantastic! They used to show the film at NMU in one of the big lecture halls for a couple bucks. The place would be packed because so many of the people in town were extras in the movie and they came to watch it on the big screen. We thought it was a new release when they showed it and couldn't figure out why it was in B&W! Then you saw how young everyone was!

From the trailer it sounds like it was quite racey for the times!

I will have to try that, Duane! Thanks!

Nostalgic pix and video. The lush-hound is a hoot, but would probably draw criticism nowadays from animal cruelty groups. But at least there are no fillers or by-products.

You can buy Anatomy of a Murder on the iTunes Store. I'm even in it.
Sure brings back a lot of memories. Judge Voelker taught me how to
fly fish. He was a friend of my dads and a great guy. That film brings
back a lot of wonderful memories.
