The U.P. is not as populated as the lower half of our state, but we make up for people counts with beautiful towns right on Lake Superior's shore. Today's first archive shot shows one of those places, Ontonagon, snapped by Rick Anderson on a flight over the town in 2003. It would be fun to have an aerial shot from this year to see how the area has changed in fourteen years.

Then in 2008, Beth Collins takes us to St. Ignace with a view of the Mackinac Bridge, the gateway between the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. Whenever we're on a trip downstate, we always have a dollar bill clipped on the visor for the first one that spots the bridge!

Back UP on the shores of Lake Superior in 2009, Doug Grusser visits McCarty's Cove in Marquette. Beautiful sandy beach and shoreline and pretty neat that you can swim right there within view of the Lighthouse, too.

As long as were on lighthouses, I couldn't resist sharing one of the most photographed spots in Copper Harbor. Marsha and Gary Galbraith were there recently and captured this view from the lookout across the harbor waters. Just look at how calm the water is, too!

For your viewing pleasure, today's video takes us on a quick tour of some of Marquette County's beaches. The video description says: "Retreat, relax, revive in Marquette County." Sounds good to me!

The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow.

What are the structures at 16-17 seconds into the video?

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 - 11:05 pm:

Bob Jewell...that would be the top of Sugarloaf Mountain! Check out this link for more information: Sugarloaf Mountain.

Super pix and the video would make a good Pure Michigan commercial.

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 - 07:43 am:

Bob Jewell, Good question. I don't remember anything like that in all
the time I lived in Marquette. Could that poslsibly be Hogsback? The
structure looks fairly new and I have been gone a long time. I hope
somebody here has the answewr.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 - 04:31 pm:

That is Sugarloaf, many changes and more tourist friendly, than many years ago.

By Mark St. Cyr (Yoopermark) on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 - 04:41 pm:

Bob Jewell and Richard J. the structures you see
