This is a postscript to last Sunday's Cam Notes. When I sat down today to review the past 19 years on July 23rd, my eye was immediately drawn to those that included flowers in the view. There are several, and I picked a couple of them above, from Dave Antikainen in 2005, in a familiar Keweenaw roadside area, and Philip Odum's Lazy Suzan's in 2014. Flowers are on my mind, because I saw so many this week, both at the funeral and at the cemetery where we laid to rest my 86 year old mom. She loved flowers.
It was a bittersweet time of reunion with so many relatives I had not seen in years. Isn't it interesting how a unique intersection of two family trees can bring together folks that you know, that may not know each other? And they're all there to pay their respects to the one who bound those two branches of the human family together. What a wonderful week it has been.
Last Sunday's picture of my mother and the butterfly at Calumet Waterworks was about 25 years ago. As we went through old photos this week, I came across one about 25 years before that, and also her most recent church directory photo. All three together, you can see the loving mother I remember in her younger years, nearing retirement, and now: a beloved lady who aged gracefully.

Thanks for sharing these reminiscences with me. Of most people who visit this website, one common interest is Michigan's Upper Peninsula. My Mom certainly loved the U.P., and we recall fondly all the summers she shared with us. If you are blessed to spend any time with your mom this summer, remember to give her some flowers while she can still enjoy them. Do your givin' while they're livin'
Have a good week :o)
