It's funny how often the years repeat themselves in the archives, with the same things happening on the Pasty Cam, on the same day, just different years. Today's photos show what I'm talking about... back in 2001, Charlie stopped to get a photo of the "Road work on M26" sign directing traffic to stay on US41 to avoid delays.
Then in 2003, Charlie was at it again with construction reporting UP North. That middle photo is the washout on Garden City Road that occurred the month before when some powerful rains hit the area. The Garden City Creek runs through Camp Gitche Gumee in Eagle River, but thankfully didn't do any damage on the camp grounds that year. The bottom photo is the Keweenaw Road Commission finishing up the repair of that washout just in time for the camping season to begin.
It is often said that here UP North, there are five seasons: Spring, Summer, Construction, Fall and Winter. Of course Construction season has to be undertaken when the weather is conducive to fixing the roads and we all know that, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant to drive through. Today's video is from Tiger Holm who braved the construction route from Hancock to Houghton over the Portage Lake Lift Bridge on his bicycle just a few days ago. You think it's nerve wracking driving through this mess, try doing it on two wheels under your own power!

Cool Video! That would make a nice bike route for the Tour da UP race.

I had no idea bikes were allowed on the bridge itself, where the cars drive.

Can't trust the driving skills of people in vehicles, no way would I attempt that on a bike, yikes!!!
