Countless boats have appeared on the Pasty Cam throughout the past 19 years. Some of the smallest have been kayaks, like in the top photo which first appeared on these pages in 2000. Dan Urbanski snapped it, while he and his wife Patty were paddling in calm waters. So calm that you can't see where the water ends and the horizon begins. Sure looks like a great day to be on the water.
Of course some of the biggest boats are the freighters and "Salties". The second photo is the Federal Mattawa, a Salty in the DeTour Channel with Drummond Island in the background.
Today's video clip was made by a deckhand aboard the Stewart J. Cort. It gives some background on the workings of a boat entering the Soo Locks. Quite interesting to get the lowdown on how it all works, from someone coming in on the boats themselves. Maybe you'll learn something new, I know I did.

The video was very interesting and informative. Got to see the locks from a perspective not normally seen. I wonder if they will get the bucks to build the new, bigger lock.

Last week I watched an episode of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe at the Soo. His dirty job was cleaning the bottom of the Soo Locks over the winter months. It was pretty interesting and dirty!
