Over in the Pasty Cam archives throughout the past 19 years, there's been a bit of stair climbing happening on this date. We start out on the East Hancock Stairway, with a photo from Kevin Peltola. These stairs take people from East Street above, to Front Street below or vice versa. In the early 1900's there was a trolley stop at the bottom of the steps, so it was somewhat of a shortcut for those folks in East Hancock to get to that trolley stop.

We move forward (not upward) to 2013, with Bob Williams taking us on the Eagle Harbor cut-off road for a visit to the Copper Falls park and fire tower there. The view from up there is spectacular, but I've noticed through the years that the trees are starting to get in the way, much more so from when we stopped there as kids with our folks.

Stairs in Hancock, stairs towards the tip of the Keweenaw and now Barb Bouwkamp takes us on a hike up over 200 stairs to the top of Silver Mountain on the Pricket Dam road in Baraga County. Barb said the top was glacier smoothed granite with a view of more trees. She was with a group of college people and they got to the top much quicker than she did, so they were ready to go back down almost as soon as she reached the top. So much for a rest in between!

For your video viewing pleasure and maybe Barb's too, since she didn't have much time to look around UP there, we have a short video taken of the vista from the top of Silver Mountain. Enjoy the view, but don't get too close to the edge!

Nice video...I had to turn the sound up all the way, but you can hear a slight breeze blowing in the background...sounds very soothing.

I went up on Silver Mountain years ago....wow.
800+ steps. You better be ready for that climb!!
My legs hurt so bad after that....and I had a doc
appt...and told him "my friend took me up on
Silver Mountain..my legs hurt..I think she tried
to kill me"....he just laughed and said "She
didn't do a very good job, did she?" LOL!!

Those are some nicely built stairs. Sadly, my days of climbing them are long past. I hear talk of the stairway to Heaven, but if it's all the same to the Lord I'll take the elevator thank you.
