Our look back through the years today is a bit of history, a bit of artistry and in some cases both at once. We start back in 2002, where webmaster Charlie Hopper had photographed a deteriorating Eagle Harbor Courthouse wall. He said back then that a massive restoration project was underway to bring this stately brick landmark back to looking good. A bit of history, since it's been there surrounding the Courthouse for some time and a bit of artistry, since masonry and brick laying is a form of art, too.
Moving on, we visit 2009 on the Pasty Cam and see some of the history contained inside the doors of the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, located just east of Negaunee. There is a fantastic collection of history about the Iron Industry, just waiting to be explored. Here again, history of course and artistry in the renditions of the pictures and displays.
Then the last photo is the artistry of Ray Lahikainen, who had recently passed away in 2015. Throughout the years, we featured a number of Ray's artistic interpretations of historical events around the Keweenaw. The one pictured here today shows the "old" bridge that crossed the Portage Canal, before the newer Lift Bridge was put in place. Another great example of history and art combining together to learn more about the places and the people that surround us.
We're going to see some of the Michigan Iron Industry Museum on today's video, as we join Ansley Watson from TV6 news, to take a look from the past up to the present on how mining has impacted the Upper Peninsula.
