Our look back into the archives today, transports us to 2004, when Roger Kangas snapped a shot across the Portage Canal, looking at Michigan Tech over in Houghton. Water this still is not something you see every day here in the Copper Country, especially since it always seems to be windy around here.
Jump forward two years to 2006 and John Sturos was over on the Houghton side of the Canal, looking back at Ripley and some of the Road Commission buildings there. Again, the Portage is smooth as glass and mirroring everything around it. Talk about doubly blessed to be able to see scenes like this in duplicate.
On our video excursion today, we fly over the Portage Canal in a helicopter, with views of Houghton, Hancock, the Lift Bridge, and Michigan Tech before setting down again in the Ramada parking lot. Please fasten your seat belt, we're ready for takeoff!

That would make a nice UBER vehicle. I wonder what the MPG is.

Perhaps it is my eyes that are becoming old as it can't be my mind, but isn't the water view taken in 2004 (Crisp and Clear) looking West from the bridge with Hancock on the right? Not Houghton.
I'm looking at what I perceive to be a high tension electrical transmission support tower to the mid left of center in making a judgement.
