Whether it's in the past 19 years or the present, kids UP North are always busy enjoying the Spring season. It can still be looking like winter, as in our two archive photos, beginning with Mark Klein's shot of swinging in the snow. Desperate times call for desperate measures, his kid wanted to swing, so he dug out the 42" of snow to make that happen. Now that's a good Daddy!
Then in 2008, Brooke Gubacz snapped a shot of her kids out snowshoeing on a still snowy landscape. They seem to be enjoying their outdoor fun, even with a spill or two. Winter jackets, snowpants and boots are common attire here in the Keweenaw, even in the spring.
Fast forward to 2017 and these Yooper boys were excited to be attending the Packer Tailgate party held at Michigan Tech this past week. The event was put together as a fundraiser for Dial Help in the area, and it featured past and present Green Bay Packer players and management. Betzee Holbrook was at the event with her son and his friends, who are holding their autographed items and in case you can't tell, their excitement at meeting these NFL football players was in high gear.
Our video today highlights "kids" at another U.P. university, Northern Michigan in Marquette, where Al Roker from the Today Show made his first visit to the U.P. to host Rokerthon 3. There were over 600 NMU students on hand in the Superiordome to break the Guinness World Record number of people playing freeze tag all at the same time. How exciting for these young people to be on national TV as they "freeze" their way into the record books. Click and join in the fun.

I watched the Rockerthon on NBC that day here in Toronto. Made my heart beat fondly for the U.P. and the city where I was born.

What is Freeze Tag? Did NBC show any video of the game play or record being broken?
