Spring here UP North changes from day to day. One day it is sunny and warmer, the next it will be snowing and blowing again, so the formations of frost and snow, compete with the beauty of spring blooms trying to emerge. Today we look back in the archives at a few of these "spring time" shots, starting with one we featured in 2001, from Steve Brimm. He really zoomed in on these snowflakes giving us an intricate look with the sun illuminating every detail.
Patty Rheault shared one of those spring blooms, a crocus, back in 2010, as it emerges during a lull in the frost and snow. These beauties are pretty hardy, coming to life when the ground here in the Keweenaw is still pretty cold. They're usually a good sign that spring really is on its way here soon.
But then another frost comes along and we find formations that resemble mushrooms and flowers when the frost settles on the ground. Brenda Leigh captured one recently that looks like a mushroom head or a big puff ball.
The featured video today shows a number of different frosty formations alongside flowing water. Spring here in the U.P. includes the sound of rivers and streams beginning to run again with the melting of the ice and snow. Enjoy the sights and sounds.

I've got dibs on the Hostess Snowball! This is my favorite time of year with no icy patches on the ground, just smooth sailing ahead.
