We continue looking back through the years as we begin our 20th at the Pasty Cam. A recurring theme you'll see involves people. People of the Keweenaw and people visiting the Keweenaw. People here and people there, photographs of people everywhere in the area. Today's look back in the archives gives a good cross section of things people do to pass the winter months.
Like the photo back in 2000, of friends gathered at the Kaleva in Hancock. I believe this was captured by Daryl Laitila, and it is typical of so many local eateries where folks gather for a meal and to share time together. Daryl was a lady, the first full-timer who joined the staff at Pasty Central in 1999, and contributed so much to the website until her passing in 2012.
Another often visited spot for visitors and locals is the Snow Thermometer on US-41 in the Keweenaw. Karla Korpela snapped this shot back in 2004 of friends that were snowmobiling in the area and stopped for this local attraction photo op.
Winter here UP North is Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey season, with plenty of high school and college games to enjoy. Our look back at 2014 shows the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes Varsity Basketball team after winning the District Championship. Those smiles and #1 finger poses captured by Gail Ongie are worth a thousand words.
To top off today's review, we found a video featuring winter in the Keweenaw. Sit back and experience the area through the eyes of one of the many snowmobile visitors that come to enjoy the outstanding snowmobile trails.
