I've mentioned the changing shoreline of Lake Superior a number of times throughout the Pasty Cam years, and how it can be so different from one shore to the other. Today we look back two years, when Stacey and Jim Flood, owners of the Oak Steet Inn here in Calumet made a visit to the Eagle River beach in 2015. They found some unique sculpting of the sand, along with artistic sand designs there on the beach.

It's a different story this year on the shores of Big Traverse where Barb Bouwkamp found the Big Lake filled in with ice shards that were breaking apart and piling UP. She said two weeks earlier there was only water here, but the wind is blowing the shifting ice of the Big Lake around and filled UP this shoreline now.

If you've never witnessed this phenomenon of the Superior ice breaking and moving relentlessly to shore, then today's video will be a treat. The sights and sounds are amazing!

I would love to witness the ice stacking. It looks fascinating. Maybe someday.

God is an amazing artist.

Cool, lake-eerie video! I remember seeing one similar on TWC showing the ice creeping up to a house and smashing thru the patio door.

Sounds like that's exactly what happened in some areas.... much larger sheets crashed into homes and buildings in the last day or two. All the same, the video is fascinating, and i'd love to see it in person too!

That video was amazing! I wish I had the time to
drive up to Duluth to witness this. Sounded just
like breaking glass, which I guess it really is.
Thanks for all the great pictures and the video.
Thoroughly enjoyed them all!

In fact, didn't we see something very similar right here in Pastyville just a few short years ago, happening up in da Keweenaw? Not just such "shards" but much more.

You're absolutely right, FRNash...The photos you're referring to were on April 29, 2014. Click on the date to check them out.

Wow, I remember that. Thanks for the reminder.
