The 2017 Copperdog 150 is in the books. It is always an exciting weekend here in the Keweenaw with the race beginning on 5th Street in Calumet, making their way to Copper Harbor and then back to where they began in this three day event. The race was founded in 2009 and has been going strong every year since.
We start with a look back at the race in 2011, snapped by Katriina Hopper, when she and Jon were splitting their time between Connecticut and the Keweenaw. They happened to be here for the races that weekend and caught some of the action.
Six years later, the sled dog races are still going strong and the folks from brocket inc were on hand to capture some of the action from this year for us all.
In case you've never been in the Keweenaw for race weekend, the video from the start of the event will give you a good feel for the excitement that gets everyone stirred up, including the dogs. One of our winter snowmobile vacations Bob & I snowmobiled from Bayfield Wis. to Madelyn Island we saw many dog sledders out on the ice . We talked to several of the sledders, they said they were working out in preparation for the Copperdog 150. Pretty cool!

Great pix and excellent video with very clear details, even in full-screen. We definitely love our events. I'm surprised no one has made a dog food commercial involving this event.

Thanks, Alex, for the comment about the full screen ~ great quality. Even made it easy to read the dog's names on the trailer. Which made me wonder if there was any significance to the top row names all being in pink and the bottom row written in yellow/white!
Janie, the Apostle Islands look like such a cool place to go ~ esp for a lighthouse lover. Madeline Island looks like the easiest to get to ~ Winter or Summer. Very cool that the teams were out practicing on the ice!

The Apostle Islands are awesome, we toured them one summer.

We're considering the Apostle's this year. Hard to make too many plans ahead of time. It always depends on how my mom's doing, but we're hoping for the Apostle's or Pictured Rocks. I'm thinking the Apostle's, though. We've never been there. And like Jbuck, I absolutely love lighthouses!!
Thanks for sharing the Copper Dog stuff. Always so cool!
